What Are the Differences Between Botox and Dysport?
If you’re struggling with wrinkles on your face, it’s possible you’ve looked into both Botox and Dysport. But which is better for your situation? And what’s the difference between these two products? Here’s what you need to know.
What Is Botox?
Botox has been used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles for a while now. In fact, people in their late 20s and early 30s are even starting to use Botox as a preventative measure for wrinkles. Botox is a substance created from the botulinum toxin. While it’s most commonly used to treat wrinkles, it can also be used to treat medical issues like excessive sweating, chronic migraines, and even overactive bladder disorders. Botox has been able to help countless patients with both cosmetic and medical issues. It’s administered in the form of an injection, which makes it a minimally invasive treatment. The product is injected in the area where you want to reduce wrinkles on your face. While wrinkle reduction isn’t permanent with Botox, it’s a good option if you’re okay with some minimal upkeep. You’ll typically need injections once or twice every year to maintain your wrinkle-free results.
What Is Dysport?
Dysport is actually quite similar to Botox in many regards. For instance, both of these products are created using the botulinum toxin. Dysport is often considered the European counterpart to Botox, which was popularized in the United States. That said, Dysport is a much more diluted product than Botox is. This product has a nearly three to one split in terms of its active ingredient. The thinner nature of Dysport means that it will spread faster over a large surface area during the treatment process. Like Botox, Dysport is administered as an injection at the site where you’d like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your face. In addition, Dysport can last for up to five months after your injection. This means you will need to get injections about twice annually if you want to maintain your results.
What’s the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?
As similar as Botox and Dysport might seem, there are a few key differences between these two products. First and foremost, as we covered earlier, the active ingredient concentrations in each product are different. This means that each product is suited for a unique use. This leads us to the next big difference between Botox and Dysport: location. Since Botox and Dysport differ in consistency, each product is suited for use on different areas of the face. For instance, Botox is an excellent option if you want to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, and other finer wrinkles. Dysport, on the other hand, will work better on larger areas. This makes it a great choice if you want to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles or “11” lines between your eyebrows.
