5 Easy Makeup Application Tips for Aging Skin

As we get older, makeup application might seem more difficult with more fine lines and wrinkles on our faces. Fortunately, there are a few easy makeup application tips that can help you reduce wrinkles and attain flawless-looking skin.

How to Apply Makeup for Anti-Aging

Make Sure Your Face is Properly Moisturized

Before you even think about putting makeup on your face, it’s important to make sure it’s clean and moisturized. This is one of the most important steps in applying makeup to aging skin. Proper cleansing and moisturizing will ensure that your skin has all of the moisture it needs to fully support a face of makeup. In addition, cleansing ensures that you’re not trapping any bacteria underneath your makeup on your skin. Most importantly, make sure you wait until your moisturizer is fully absorbed before applying any makeup. This will ensure a smoother application and a lack of dry skin.

Invest in a Good Primer

Once your moisturizer has settled and your skin is dry, it’s time to prime. A primer, as the name suggests, primes your skin for the makeup you plan on applying. Primer fills fine lines and wrinkles, creates a smooth barrier between your skin and your makeup, and can help even out your skin tone. If you really want to take advantage of a primer’s imperfection-blurring qualities, look for a silicone-based primer. These primers are excellent at creating a smooth surface for foundation to sit upon. And while a good primer isn’t a substitute for dermatologist-approved wrinkle reducing treatment, it’s a good trick to help you achieve a more youthful appearance with your makeup.

Use a Light-Coverage Foundation

When your skin is older, you have more fine lines and may be seeing the beginnings of wrinkles. Unfortunately, a full-coverage foundation is only going to accentuate those wrinkles. In addition, a full-coverage foundation is going to be more difficult to blend. To ensure that you maintain a smooth, crease-free surface with your foundation, stick to something that’s either light-coverage or a BB cream. Combined with the primer you’re using on your skin beforehand, this lighter formula will help create a radiant, satin-like finish on your skin.

Use Concealer Minimally

While concealer is a powerful tool for covering blemishes, it’s important that you use it sparingly. Too much concealer or concealer that’s too light can make for a patchy, cake-like finish with your makeup. In addition, using a concealer before you put on foundation can lead to overuse. Putting your concealer on after your foundation can save you from using too much and make blending easier. Finally, use a concealer that’s just a shade lighter than your foundation for under-eye coverage and a concealer that matches your foundation for overall blemish coverage.

Use Liquid or Cream Products Instead of Powder

Powder might be what you’re used to, but it’s certainly not doing you any favors if you want to reduce eye wrinkles. Powders tend to settle into fine lines and accentuate them, which means liquid or cream products are going to give you a better finish while reducing the appearance of your wrinkles.
